I’m going for it! I will write a book.

I’m going for it. I’m also putting it out in the world right now to hold me accountable and so people can ask me how it’s going. I will write a book. I’m beginning to work on it as I type this. I have reached out to an editor, waiting for a response, I have taken a few intro courses on how to write a memoir and spent hours focusing on this. Honestly it may not happen in 2020, but I will start and in 2021 I will say I wrote a book.

I have been told by many to write a book. So I started with this blog. A friend had a piece in a book, so I bought it, read it and was super encouraged to share my story. The editor who edited the book has a publishing company as well does all kinds of workshops around writing a memoir.

So I signed up for her email list and got a free basics, structure of how to start your memoir. It was great, it Inspired me. I started to follow her on Instagram, Anna David.

She then had a flash sale of a course “The Definitive Guide to Writing a Bestselling Memoir” by Launch Pad Publishing. I bought this, I took it, took lots of notes and was so Inspired. I have lots of questions though, so I sent her an email to find out if she does a consult call. She has lots of services but I was confused on her website, that could have to do with my 🧠 injury.

I am more motivated then ever. I’m ready to start working on this. I read the addiction diaries which was edited and published by her, it was great and left me wanting more. A few of the contributors have books which I was excited to see as a few are on my book shelf at home. My friend Jessica had contributed one of the essays.

Thinking about what to write in a memoir is easy, it will basically be a compilation of all I learned in life and up to my sober journey and beyond. I think it would end per her 10 chapter structure with the fact I have a TBI. Which then leaves it open to another book specifically about my TBI and brain injury. This Is why I must consult with her. I know it’s a money investment, but my husband is willing to do it. So it’s definitely something I am actively pursuing. More to come.

Would love to hear feedback from anyone who has done this, tips, insights and more. I am definitely looking at many options for how to do this, I have a friend who told me her publisher and have looked at that as well and the requirements. So while I figure all this out, I will just start to write. I would love to hear from those who have done it though to make sure I am going the right route. I am so grateful to a few people who have already given me their publishers info and it really has made me check out the different options and see this is possible even without funds for it right now. So I will just start writing away for now to prepare a manuscript I can submit to some companies. I have no set timelines, life changes as I have learned constantly and I just have to go with it. But in my downtime between work, family and home I will write when I have time and see what comes of it. 2021 I will definitely write a book.

I also have talked to a friend, a fellow Brain Injury survivor who has wrote 2 books and she gave me some helpful information and connected me to her professor who helped her and does a group author program. She messaged him and sent me the information and it looks great. I scheduled a free consult call with him soon. He has an award winning “creators” program from Georgetown University that has helped 400+ authors publish books. I am so excited to learn more and speak with him.

Wow!! I am so happy for you! Yes, write it down and hold yourself accountable. Lol. My kids have been telling me I should write a book for a few years now, but I’m just not there yet. Last month someone asked me to be a contributing author in a book anthology and I agreed to write a chapter. Guess I’ll see how this goes before I decide to move forward. For now I’ll stick with blogging. Honestly, I am sooo happy for you! I love reading your blogs. Can’t wait to read your book in 2021!!💕

I’m a huge proponent for writing your story. As I say on my blog: write your brain injury story. And your voice is so energetic and enthusiastic on this blog that if you write your memoir like that you will have a great book!
